Sharing Jesus Christ should be the life blood of any church. Pastors are to be the chief soul winners in the church, with the members following suit. I must be truthful with each person who clicks on this website. In 12 years of pastoring, I used only two evangelists, Scott Dawson and Bo Shedd. In my mind and in the churches I served, I felt that fellow pastors could reach the congregation in a way they could understand. Don't get me wrong, God blessed, but we really didn't see the harvest that could've been with a true harvesting evangelist. EVANGELISM IS IMPORTANT!!!!

Why choose us?
Our family is literally taking a step of faith! For years, God has been leading in the direction of evangelism, but as husband, I was afraid of "pulling the trigger" and surrendering fully to the call of God. As a matter of fact and truth, Jeniffer sensed this call long before I did!
Pastoring is long, hard, and difficult. As a matter of fact and truth, I've had two heart attacks and a nervous breakdown while as a pastor. Why mention that? I am human - but I'm saved by the grace of God! If God can use me - He can use anyone! My heart is to assist churches in evangelism - through training, revivals, etc. My heart is to help the pastor who is struggling - because guess what - I've been there. My heart is to help the pastor who is ready to quit. Guess why - I've been there. Jonathan Powell Ministries exists for the GLORY OF GOD!!
Our ministry is available for:
Weekend Crusades (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday) - (Preaching, Worship Leading, or Both)
Week-long Crusades (Preaching, Worship Leading, or Both)
One night Revival Meetings
Harvest Sundays
Evangelism Training Sessions
With this being a faith-based ministry - at no time would we turn down a church because of finances! God will provide. All we ask is an honorarium and a love offering to cover our expenses. In addition, if it's an out of town meeting, we ask the church to put us up in a hotel and provide food for the stay. Big church or small church - Jesus loves us all if we're obedient to Him!

My Testimony of Faith
I came to know Jesus Christ on a personal basis on March 22, 1981 at the conclusion of a Spring Revival Meeting at Carlisle Baptist Church in Boaz, AL. True conviction fell upon my heart that I was a sinner and needed Jesus Christ. It was the next night I made my Profession of Faith and became a part of the fellowship at Carlisle. I wish that everything I typed was "peaches and cream", but unfortunately it isn't! There were times in my life that I strayed away from the teachings of God's Word. In college, I wasn't very faithful in my church attendance, enjoyed going to the dog track in Greene County, AL. God had a way of shutting things down. I was a music education major at Alabama. I got within 15 hours of graduation and things came to a screeching halt. My performance for the required recital was not up to par. I had a choice, re-try or change majors. I retried, transferred to Jacksonville State and finished my degree in 1997. God made a way of taking care of me, in spite of me. Through this time, I met Jeniffer, through coaching her sister's basketball team at Sardis High School. I served churches as their Minister of Music. God richly blessed. As was stated in the "About Us" section, I taught HS band for ten years and loved every minute of it. Yet, something was missing. After three years of literally running in a dead sprint from the call to preach, I surrendered to preach the Gospel on August 26, 2000. I had literally no choice. In the years of running, it was amazing how Satan used me to tear down, instead of building up. Once I surrendered, was everything easy? Heaven's no! Temptations still arose from time to time. It was a test of my faith. In August 2005, I took my first pastorate (God help those sweet people) at Bakers Chapel Baptist in Claysville, AL. What a wonderful time. Very caring folks - it was the church our oldest was dedicated in. I had the opportunity to baptize 38 in 2 years. God was so good. Something was still missing though - I sensed God leading us to go full-time! Black Creek Baptist in Collinsville, AL called. For almost 4 years, in the middle of nowhere, God did a work. Attendance went from 80 to as high as 320. The church had 108 baptisms in our time there, with over 160 accepting Christ as their Savior and Lord. It was a great time. In 2011, I sensed God leading us to another church. In April 2011, we attempted to move to Tuscaloosa and take the Hopewell Baptist Church in Alberta City. We received a 100% vote, then the tornadoes hit. The area was destroyed. Once our time began, we commuted from Boaz to Tuscaloosa on a normal basis - there were no homes available. Through this time, souls were being saved, the church was being revitalized and experiencing life for the first time in years. God was moving. Then on November 15, 2011, I suffered a massive heart attack. Things came to a screeching halt. I ended up giving the church up in February 2012, much to my sadness and to the chagrin of the church. From Hopewell, I took an Associate Pastor position at a church close to home. Mount Vernon was and is a vibrant, exciting church. We enjoyed our time there as a "healing" time and a "growing" time. Then in May 2013, God led us to Union Grove #1 in Albertville, AL. God worked massively in this church. In 3 1/2 years, over 160 were saved through various ministries. We baptized 112 in this time. The church grew from 89 in worship to as high as 251. God was great. Then the wheels fell off. Let me explain:
In June of 2016, I suffered a nervous breakdown. I was trying to do everything at the church. I couldn't do it anymore and reached literally rock bottom. The church graciously granted me a six week sabbatical. It was a time of peace and renewal. In August 2016, I gave up the church. It was needed! Without my family, I had NO ministry. We needed healing as a family - a break from serving a church - and simply a time of renewal with the Lord. Over the past year, times have been tough, especially financially. But, GOD HAS BEEN FAITHFUL!!!!!! Our family is grateful to Mount Calvary Baptist in Albertville, AL for welcoming us into their congregation. Now, we are responding to God's call on our lives to evangelism. Now you know who I am! The real me. I have struggles, just like you - but I serve a Savior who lifts me up and provides for our needs!!!
